I’ve wanted to build the kit, based on Krafft Ehricke’s 1950s design, for some time. Before I got back into scale modelling I was an add-on developer for the space sim Orbiter, and this model’s design was an influence for one of my major projects there.

But I also wondered what a more realistic colour scheme might look like on the spacecraft. This kit, itself based on the old 1950s Strombecker model, is usually painted all-silver (as the Moebius box art depicts) or all-white (as the Strombecker box art depicts). I figured neither of these finishes were realistic and applied this scheme with assumptions based on observations of NASA spacecraft from the 1960s to the present.
