This was a magazine subscription based kit, however, I acquired it from an acquaintance of Harry Edmond (RIP) about 1/2 built.
I stripped the kit apart completely, reversing the 50-odd assembly steps, then began again, thoroughly cleaning & refining assembly along the way.
Hence the 100+ hours! I was disappointed by the pre-assembled parts from de-Agostini in that no care had been taken to properley remove the parts from their original sprue, leaving a ‘tag’, and then, some of these parts being chromed over that ‘tag’, and the SEAMLINES. DON’T YOU JUST HATE THAT!!
Despite that, the quality of the kit is good, however, the overall cost would have been way above my consideration, and the assembly process would have been extraordinarily frustrating, having to wait for the next part….
To give you an idea – it’s around 10 magazine issues before you get to combine any of the sub-assemblies you’ve completed!
The other big peeve – most of the screws supplied are just a little too short, where they don’t bite enough into the plastic part and strip the thread, and poor quality where the screw is likely to sheer off if you get a little too enthusiastic!! (Brush up on your ‘tap & die’ skills & equipment before you start one of these.)
I have glued & screwed some parts together to ensure a better fit, removed some seamlines & painted.
Body finished with Tamiya “Finish” paste, and then treated with Tamiya Modelling Wax, to really make it sparkle!.
Pretty happy with the end result!!
