.: Waverly Interclub Challenge Sept 2009
In the immortal words of Bill Murray in Ghostbusters , "We came,we saw, we kicked its arse!" Yes ESSMC was once again victorious winning the Waverly Interclub Challenge after an absence of a year, due to our club trip to Pucka in 2008. Thank you and congratulations to all of those members who entered a model in the various categories on behalf of the club. This year was probably on of the best attended interclub challenges, from our members anyway, with at least eleven of us there at some point during the day.
The small swap and sell was surprisingly well stocked with bargains, a few of which will filter through our raffle overthe coming months. The usual kit race took place, with this years model being a Tamileri cross breed 1/72 F-4 Phanton. Instead of a rigid time frame, this year we were given until 3>30pm to finish our models and present them downstairs. Peter McKinnon was the team captain, and he wen above and beyond the call of duty, even shedding blood for the team cause.... He sliced open his finger on a booby-trapped razor blade. Some one said it was put there by IPMS to slow us down, but infact it belonged to Pete and he forgot it was there until it was embedded in his finger ....ouch!
Apart from the bloodshed, which a sip of coopers soon alleviated, we had a fun afternoon sanding and glueing and telling stoi\ries and jokes. Before we new it ,it was 3pm and we had just glued the fuselage halves together. Like treu professionals though, we didn't panic, instead it was all hands on deck, painting, glueing, soaking decals.....all at once mind you. Suddenlt the five minute warning was sounded and the bloody nose on the phantom kept dropping off - it was like watching a Michael Jackson on a hot dsay. Parts were still missing! It was decided this would be a flying model,no time for under carriage, in fact no time for glue as we stuffed various parts into palace using blu-tack to hold them in! But it worked and was judged as the best Phantom of the day...
Overall placings were ESSMC first , Waverly second and IPMS third. Mr Bruce Hearn was on hand, on his 80th birthday, for the presentaion, but the trophy had done a dissapearing act, so hopefully it'll turn up soon. My thanks to Waverly members and the organising committe fora really fun day. Also thanks to Pete for organising the ESSMC team...Ken
